GLYNNEVAN Whisky Wins Three Medals at San Francisco World Spirits Competition
GLYNNEVAN Whisky brought the hardware home to Nova Scotia, winning Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the prestigious 2018 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Regarded as one of the world’s most influential spirits competitions due to its rigorous blind tasting process and esteemed judges, our GLYNNEVAN whiskies were among more than 2,220 spirits entered in this year’s competition, the most competitive in the 18-year history of the event.
In its first year at the competition, our 12 Year Old Straight 100% Canadian Rye was awarded the Gold medal. The competition recognizes a gold medallist as an “exceptional spirit near the pinnacle of achievement”. High praise for a whisky that we describe as being like a good Maritimer; distinctive and an original. This beautiful whisky has layers of butterscotch, vanilla, rye spices and a faint hint of the sea on the nose. Rich flavours of sweet rye spice, pepper, butterscotch, toasted oak and vanilla follow. An elegant and creamy dram, the finish is long and warm. We’re proud to set the standard for the Canadian Whisky category with this expression.
The Silver medal went to our Cabot Triple Barrelled Rye Whisky. This award recognizes our Triple Barrelled as an “outstanding spirit to be enjoyed for its refinement and complexity”. GLYNNEVAN Cabot gets its distinct flavour from a second barrelling in freshly drained Fortress Rum barrels. Fortress, another spirit from Authentic Seacoast Distilling, was also a Silver medalist the competition. GLYNNEVAN Cabot opens with a sweet nose of butterscotch and tropical fruit. In the mouth you’ll discover rye spices, cinnamon, vanilla, caramel and toasted oak. Fortress Rum arrives at the finish making this a dram that stands out in a crowd. It was recently voted the most popular among more than 175 whiskies at the 2018 NSLC Festival of Whisky.
Finally, our Double Barrelled Canadian Rye Whisky took home a Bronze medal this year after winning Silver the past two years. This immensely popular whisky is available at the ANBL, LCBO, NSLC and PEI Liquor. This is a well-balanced whisky with toasted oak, vanilla and a hint of tropical fruit on the nose. The taste has flavours of butter, toffee, vanilla and baking spices. You’ll find the finish long and warm, a great everyday dram.
