A Whisky Cocktail for Valentine’s

Whisky is a drink that can get passed over for Valentine’s Day in favour of red vodka cocktails and champagne. So what’s the whisky lover to do? Make a romantic whisky cocktail of course!

The Boulevardier is a classic whisky cocktail that delivers the promise of romance. Essentially a Negroni with rye whisky replacing the gin, this simple, three ingredient cocktail oozes continental charm with Italian Campari and a good quality sweet French vermouth. Our Double Barrelled Canadian Rye is the perfect whisky for this drink as it stands up nicely to the Campari, allowing the flavours of our whisky to come through.

Now this cocktail can be made over ice or up in a martini glass. For Valentine’s Day, the martini glass might be your preferred option lending a touch of elegance to the toast to your sweetheart. But if you don’t have martini glasses, build it over ice in a rocks glass, pouring in the ingredients in the order we list them below.

And for something extra special, follow our suggestion of a flamed orange peel for a garnish. Voilà!

  • 1 oz sweet Vermouth
  • 1 oz Campari
  • 1 ½ oz GLYNNEVAN Double Barrelled Rye Whisky

Add the sweet Vermouth, Campari and GLYNNEVAN Double Barrelled Rye Whisky to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a flamed orange peel.

The Boulevardier is an excellent pre-dinner drink and will set the stage for a romantic Valentine’s evening.
